  • An analogue carrier signal from the transmitter is modulated onto a wire using, for example, alligator clips or a modular plug. The other end of the wire can be located quickly and accurately, both visually and acoustically, using the receiver. Although the mains detector is voltage resistant, it is still not possible to work on live parts as the mains hum from the other wires will be superimposed.
